2010 DBI Sheep is Life Fleece Show Report

Submitted by Connie Taylor

The 2010 wool show was very well attended and the fleeces entered were exceptional. DBI should be proud of the quality and number of entries. It was a pleasure to judge the show with Sarah Natani, Beverly Allen, and Louis Garcia. We shared our opinions and all learned from the comments. Most of our opinions were in agreement about the positive and negative traits of the wool.

All fleeces were given a "grade" and comments were hand written by me for each fleece and placed in each fleece bag for the owner to read. These comment cards had little ribbons attached, with an explanation of the card grading system.

2010 Winners:

Grand Champion Ram Fleece: Chris and Stephanie Ribera - Alamo Grande

Reserve Champion Ram Fleece: Chris and Stephanie Ribera _ Alamo Grande

Grand Champion Ewe Fleece: Robbin Robinson - Grand Falls Sheep Farm

Reserve Champion Ewe Fleece: Mike Rich and Cindy Dvergsten - Arriola Sunshine Farm

Thank you for the opportunity to work with DBI and with the wool show. The team judging was fun and we passed on many observations to the participants.

The individuals who submitted their fleeces were very appreciative of the comments on each fleece. This helps them to make better decisions about flock management and breeding.
