Juried Navajo Weaving Sale - Friday, June 18, 2010.  3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Student Union Ballroom (SUB).

Featuring weavings from Navajo-Churro hand-spun wool in natural and vegetal dyed colors.

Open to all Diné Weavers.  Submit work at the SUB on Friday, June 18, between 8:00 a.m. and noon.  Artists must be present with their work during the show.

No commission is charged to the artists.  Public admission is free.

 

Contemporary Fiber Arts Sale - Saturday, June 19, 2010.  1:00 – 6:00 p.m. Blue Tent. Rodeo Arena.

Creative value-added products made from wool and other fibers.

Open to all fiber artists.  Submit work at the DBI Information Booth, June 19, between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.  Artists must be present with their work during the show.

No commission is charged to the artists.  Public admission is free.

Juried Navajo Weaving and Contemporary Fiber Arts Shows

at the 14th Annual Sheep is Life Celebration

Diné be’ iiná, Inc. presents two fiber arts shows during the 14th Annual Sheep is Life Celebration at Diné College in Tsailé, the Navajo Nation.  Artists are invited to submit work between 8:00 a.m. and noon on Friday, June 18, for the Juried Navajo Weaving Show, and on Saturday, June 19, for the Contemporary Fiber Arts Show.  Contact TahNibaa Naataanii, Project Director, at 505.406.7428 for information about submitting work.

 

Creativity and imagination are the main themes of this show.  Art and functional objects can be made using techniques such as knitting, felting, quilting, sewing, weaving, collage, or other methods.  Products can include everything from pot holders and bookmarks, lamp shades and footwear, to king-sized quilts and wall hangings.

Artists must be present with their work.  There is no fee or commission charged to artists.  Public admission is free.

The Juried Navajo Weaving Show and Sale is open to all Diné weavers of any age.  Submitted work must be made with 100 percent sheep and/or goat wool.  Weavers must submit their work between 8:00 a.m. and noon on Friday, June 18, in the Student Activity Building. The sales show is open to the public from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Weavings with contemporary designs and original themes are encouraged, as long as the work is made on a Navajo loom, including wagon wheel, sash belt, or other style.  This show features weavings made with hand-spun Navajo-Churro yarn in natural colors or vegetal and natural dyes. All work must be checked in by noon on Friday, June 18, at the Diné College Student Union Building on the Tsailé Campus.

Jurying is from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., with awards given for 1) Hand-Spun, Natural Colored Wool; 2) Hand-Spun, Vegetal-dyed Wool; 3) Commercial Spun, Analine Dyed Wool; 4) Contemporary Original Design; and 5) Best of Show.  Special awards will be given for Youth up to 18 Years Old; Elders 65 and Older; and Artists’ Choice.

Artists must be present to show and sell their work.  There is no charge to the weavers to submit work; buyers will pay a five percent premium to help support Sheep is Life. Public admission is free.

DBI’s Annual Awards will be given on Friday, 18 June, at 6:00 p.m., during the Navajo Weaving Show.  Awards include the Goldtooth and Mary Begay Lifetime Achievement; Volunteer of the Year; Youth Horizon; and Dr. Annie Wauneka Elder Shepherdess Award.  The reception is from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The 14th Annual Sheep is Life Celebration is Monday through Saturday, June 14-19, on the Diné College Tsailé Campus, approximately 26 miles northeast of Chinlé, Navajo Nation.  All times are Mountain Daylight Time.
