Sheep and Wool Show

 Navajo-Churro WOOL Show    Friday, June 17th, 2016

Fleeces and Registrations accepted at 2:00 PM – There is no fee. Do not mail fleeces. You must be present to enter your fleece. 

Show time is 3:00 PM. Jay Begay Jr. is the show juror.
Connie Taylor, Cerro Mojino Woolworks will judge; and Zefren Hunt-Anderson, Youth Fiber Art Apprentice will assist.

Note: Classes may be adjusted at the judge’s discretion based on number, type and quality of entries. Judging will be based on how well your fleece compares to the Navajo-Churro Sheep Association breed standard and the overall quality of your fleece. You may receive comments about other characteristics of the wool and its potential uses from a Navajo fiber artist perspective. Fleeces should be skirted and bagged. There is no fee for participation in the show, however if you can afford to make a donation to help cover costs of this event, we would appreciate it. Visit www.navajolifeway.org and be sure to add a note that you are donating to the Sheep Show so your name will be put into a raffle for horse cinch and lead rope donated by Jay Begay. Please send form to info@navajolifeway.org or bring it with you. You may enter more than one fleece per class. Only raw fleeces will be accepted in this show. Wool is best presented in a clear plastic bag (such as what is used for recycling trash).  Wool will be judged according to its merits as a Navajo-Churro fleece and environmental factors will be secondary when all else is considered.  A reasonable amount of skirting is suggested.  A card will be filled out by you at the time of registration.  Or if you prefer, click hear for copies to fill out in advance: Wool Show Card 2016

Navajo-Churro SHEEP Show     Saturday, June 18th, 2016

Registration starts at 8:30 AM and goes through the day. 

Show Time is 9:30 AM – Lamb classes are first, followed by yearling and mature classes.
The show will end about 2:30 PM

Jay Begay Jr. is the Show Juror.

Dr. Lyle McNeal, Utah State University will judge; Dr. Don Bixby DVM and Robbin Robinson N-CSA will assist.

Please carefully read and sign the registration form.

Note: Classes may be adjusted at the judge’s discretion based on number, type and quality of entries. Please limit the number of animals shown to 3 per class. This year we will be using a score card system. There will be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for each class; grand champion and reserve champion for ram and ewe and best of show. Your animals will be judged using the Navajo-Churro Sheep breed standard and general observations on health and fitness of the animal. If you plan to camp with your animals there will be a $5.00 per night fee you will required to pay upon arrival.  This is to cover extra facility and security costs.
